Pantomime, Northgate Hospital

In 2023, our Occupational Therapy team based at Northgate Hospital received funding from SHINE to support Talk 1st and service user and carer events.

Mitford Unit is an autism inpatient service for adults who are on the autism spectrum, who have complex needs and display challenging behaviours to the extent that their needs cannot be met by local assessment and treatment services.

The Occupational Therapy team based at Mitford used funding from SHINE to purchase materials such as games and art equipment to support service user and carer events. The money enabled the team to organise a number of events for service users, carers and their families, that they can enjoy in a relaxed environment.

In the build up to Christmas, service users and carers were able to get in the Christmas spirit by enjoying a bespoke pantomime which was performed by the Morpeth Pantomime Society. CNTW’s chaplain Stewart was also in attendance for the performance of “The Escaped Dragon”, playing carols and sing along songs for everyone who was present to enjoy.

The team have also helped support SHINE through events in which they have raised funds for the charity, which goes a long way in providing future experiences and activities like this one for our service users and carers.
