SHINE provided funding to repurpose the Kiff Kaff into a Cycle Hub at St Georges Park.

Ruskin Unit in Carlisle recently received funding from SHINE for a new therapeutic tool to provide comfort to patients on the unit.

Therapy workbooks, Royal Victoria Infirmary
Thanks to funding from SHINE, patients using our Richardson Eating Disorder Service’s now have access to therapy manuals that can significantly enhance their recovery journey.

In August 2023, SHINE provided £2808 to purchase gym and sports equipment for the Sycamore Unit at Northgate Hospital.

Embleton ward are delighted to have received funds from SHINE to purchase activity equipment which included a table football.

In 2023, the Ruskin unit at Carleton Clinic in Carlisle received funding for specialist seating for patients.

In 2023, funding was granted to make improvements to a family room at St Georges Park, Morpeth.

SHINE provided funding for the restoration of the therapeutic garden at St George's Park, Morpeth.

In 2023, Aldervale – CNTW’s Specialist Rehabilitation and Recovery Unit in Sunderland received funds from SHINE to purchase outdoor sports equipment.

Secure Care Services courtyard gets upgrade with colourful new planters.

Community Forensic Allotment Group
The Forensic Team’s Allotment Group secured funds from the SHINE fund to maintain and improve their allotment on Tweed Street in Newcastle, which is open for all patients in a forensic community or inpatient service within CNTW.

VR Headsets for Art, Recovery and Engagement at Northgate Hospital
The Recovery and Engagement team at Northgate Hospital received funding from SHINE to purchase VR headsets to be used for fitness, healthy living and education.

Karaoke Machine, Yewdale, West Cumberland
Yewdale, one of our inpatient units based at West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, received funding to purchase a karaoke machine to support social engagement for patients.

Cycle workshop, Walkergate Park
The physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language teams at Walkergate Park joined forces in 2023 to host a cycling workshop for patients and staff.

Materials for managing emotions, Beadnell, St Georges Park
One of our inpatient’s units based at St George’s Park, received funding to purchase materials for the Managing Emotions Group, which included stationary, self soothe boxes and an air fryer to support cooking sessions with patients.

In 2023, Roker – one of the inpatient units based at Monkwearmouth Hospital received funding to purchase activity boxes to help with zonal engagement.

Pantomime, Northgate Hospital
In 2023, our Occupational Therapy team based at Northgate Hospital received funding from SHINE to support Talk 1st and service user and carer events.

CD Radio Players, Headphones and Digital dementia clocks, Akenside, Newcastle
Akenside at the Campus for Ageing and Vitality in Newcastle, received funding to purchase a range of items including radio players, headphones and digital dementia clocks.

Summer Festival, St George’s Park
In August 2023, Specialist Occupational Therapist Lee received funding from SHINE to run a summer festival for patients and carers at St George’s Park.

Self-soothe sensory boxes, Silverdale
In 2023, Newcastle West Community Treatment Team received funding from SHINE to support work the team are doing with patients around distraction, sensory and self-sooth techniques.

Games and activities, St George’s Park
In 2023, an inpatient service at St. George’s Park, Morpeth received funding from SHINE to enhance patient wellbeing through the purchase of various games and activities.

Therapeutic Activities, Walkergate Park
In 2023 the Social, Therapeutic and Recreational Rehabilitation Team (STARRT) at Walkergate Park received £5000 from SHINE to spend on activities to boost patient wellbeing on the site.

Christmas presents and activities, Trustwide
Every Christmas, SHINE provides inpatient wards with funding for presents and acitivies for all patients in hospital on Christmas Day.

Christmas Party, St George’s Park
In December 2023, Beadnell Mother and Baby Unit hosted their annual Christmas Party for patients, ex-patients from the past 12 months and their families.

Little Bags of Love, Carleton Clinic
In 2023, Ruskin, our Dementia Assessment and Treatment Unit in Carlisle, received funding from SHINE for Little Bags of Love.

Bags of care, Workington
The Children’s Learning Disability and ADHD teams in North Cumbria received funding for 200 Bags of Care, a support tool for parents/carers whose child is receiving care in the services.

In June 2023, the Trust’s adult male acute ward in North Cumbria received funding from SHINE for gym and exercise equipment.

In June 2023, our inpatients service at Hopewood Park in Sunderland received funding from SHINE for sensory equipment to help patients self-regulate whilst in hospital.
