Rowanwood is an acute mental health ward at the Carleton Clinic in Carlisle. It supports men from across Cumbria who need a high level of care because of serious mental health difficulties.
The ward has 14 beds and a team of professionals who provide assessment, care and treatment.
Who is Rowanwood for?
Rowanwood is for men aged 18 and over who have serious mental health difficulties, such as depression, anxiety or psychosis, and need to stay in hospital because they:
- Are at immediate risk of harming themselves or taking their own life
- Are unable to care for themselves because of their mental health
- Are at immediate or major risk to other people
- Are at risk of losing important support from family, friends or services
- Need more support than community mental health services can safely provide
- Are at risk of being taken advantage of or exploited
- Are likely to become much more unwell without urgent mental health treatment
How can I be referred?
The Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHT) reviews all referrals to Rowanwood and decides whether a hospital admission is needed.
Rowanwood is also a designated Place of Safety under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
