Our aim is to help people support or regain independence as drivers and passengers following a change in health. At North East Drive Mobility (NEDM), we also provide powered wheelchair assessments, and work alongside our Independent Travel Advice Service for those who are looking for alternatives to driving.
We assess and advise if a health problem affects how you drive or travel. We have centres in Newcastle, Stockton and Cumbria.
North East Drive Mobility offers the following services:
Specialist, independent driving assessments led by trained Mobility Clinicians and Specialist Driving Advisers. We also advise on vehicle adaptations and help for drivers.
Passenger assessment for those with difficulties getting in and out of a vehicle. We also offer advice on loading and storing items like wheelchairs.
Powered wheelchair and mobility scooter assessments to help people maintain independence.
Children assessments and advice on car safety for children who find car travel difficult.
A free, independent travel advice service for those looking for advice on alternatives to driving.
For existing clients, we offer specialist driving tuition if you need a new method of control. Or refreshers if you have not driven for a while. We also offer theory test support

Lived Experience Service
We believe it is very important you, your carers and families have opportunity to design and improve our services. The Lived Experience Service provides support to people who want to be involved in developing our services and provide a range of projects and activities that people can take part in.
