Are you planning research with CNTW? There are several ways that we can support you.
Applying for funding
We urge Chief Investigators to get in touch with us as early as possible when applying for funding.
We can offer support throughout the process. From identifying funders, to successfully submitting grant applications, across a range of funding streams.
Browse all NIHR funding opportunities here. The NIHR’s Research Support Service can also help develop applications to the NIHR and other national funders.
Costing a study
We can support you by working with CNTW’s and partners’ finance teams to gather
- collaborator costs
- CNTW costs
- costs for co-applicants
- costed staff time
We can also
- Help you complete the Schedule of Events Cost Attribution Tool (SOECAT).
- Work with the Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) on behalf of the Chief Investigator to validate the SOECAT.
- Offer advice on choosing service providers, and getting quotes for services and goods.
Pre-award meeting
If you’d like CNTW to sponsor your study and support you with a funding application, we will ask you to fill out a Funding Development Tool. We will then arrange a pre-award meeting with the Chief Investigator to:
- discuss the application
- agree roles and responsibilities
- decide the financial host and sponsor for the project
Hosting
- If CNTW employs the Chief Investigator, CNTW will host the research funding.
- If another organisation employs the Chief Investigator but they seek sponsorship from CNTW, CNTW will usually host the research funding from NIHR.
Sponsorship
All research studies running through CNTW will need a sponsor. That may be CNTW or another body.
A research sponsor is an individual, company, institution, organisation or group of organisations. They take on (or delegates) responsibility for the initiation, management and financing of the research.
CNTW can sponsor a range of studies, from low-risk small-scale observational projects to complex Clinical Trials of an Investigational Medicinal Product (CTIMPs) and Medical Device Trials.
If you would like CNTW to sponsor your research project, get in touch as possible at CNTWSponsorManagement
All studies seeking sponsorship will need to submit:
- A copy of their completed Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) application form.
- All documents required for the IRAS submission (including protocol, data collection records and any participant-facing documents).
- The Chief Investigator's Research CV and Good Clinical Practice Certificate. (Two pages signed and dated and noting relevant experience, training, or Good Clinical Practice Training date.)
- Confirmation of funding OR confirmation of independent scientific peer review.
You will need to submit further documentation depending on whether your study is:
- funded
- taking place at multiple participating organisations
- using a service provider such as a transcription service
- interventional
Please get in touch with us as early as possible so we can support you with these documents. We will give you a checklist that includes all the documents required.
Once we have received a valid submission, we will review your request. We will give you feedback and comments within three weeks.
