Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)?

EMDR is a type of psychotherapy developed as a treatment for people affected by trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

It aims to help you process and recover from past events which may be having an impact on your current mental health and wellbeing. In EMDR therapy, a therapist guides you though making side-to-side eye movements (or tapping, or using sounds), while thinking about a traumatic memory.

EMDR is well-known as a treatment for PTSD. It is acknowledged by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a treatment option for PTSD.
