The theme for this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day is ‘Changing the Narrative’. This is an opportunity for all of us to start a conversation about suicide prevention.

The North East and North Cumbria Suicide and Self Harm Research Collaborative brings together health and social care practitioners, academics, and people with lived experience. They aim to help increase the likelihood that research is implemented and has an impact whilst also increasing awareness and reducing stigma.

On Thursday 9 October, the Research Collaborative will be running a free online workshop themed ‘Small Change Big Impact’. This is an opportunity for us to hear from people who been personally affected by suicide and self-harm, as well as researchers. We will then work together to agree one small thing we can work on collectively that could potentially make a real difference to people’s lives.

The Research Collaborative provides an environment for partners and people with lived experience working in this challenging and sometimes distressing area of research to work together and support each other. Taking care of our own wellbeing is a priority.
