Stoptober – “Quitting smoking has been the best thing I’ve ever done”

After smoking for 40 years, one of our patients had tried many times to quit. But they always slipped back, often because they didn’t have the right support in place.

They were referred into CNTW’s Community Tobacco Dependence Treatment Service and received support from Tobacco Dependence Advisor Jessica.

Jessica provided ongoing encouragement and practical help, including a personalised plan. They used a vape alongside 24-hour nicotine patches.

This time things were different. With Jessica’s support, the patient felt confident, motivated and able to stay on track.

They said: “The support has been absolutely life changing. I don’t think I could have done it without Jess. In the past, I tried on my own and failed. Having someone there to guide me and adjust things when needed made all the difference. Quitting smoking has been the best thing I have ever done. My only regret is not doing it years ago.”

This success story shows the vital role our Tobacco Dependence Advisors play in helping people stop smoking and the positive impact of support across the Trust.

If you’re looking to stop smoking, there’s a wide range of free quitting tools available, including the NHS Quit Smoking app, the Personal Quit Plan, expert support from local stop smoking services and a Smokefree Facebook support group.

There’s also lots of information about aids such as nicotine-free medicines, nicotine replacement therapies and vaping, available on the Better Health website.
