Tom, a staff nurse at Hopewood Park in Sunderland, has raised an amazing £1,100 to support our SHINE charitable fund.
Tom said, “I sent a couple of messages out to the two football clubs I am involved with – Sunderland West End FC and The Lansdowne FC. To my amazement, we have managed to raise £1,100 to donate to Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust’s SHINE Fund. I’m absolutely blown away by the response!
“I’ve managed to keep this a secret from my colleagues too, so I am buzzing to finally announce this great news and share some positivity. Sunderland is an amazing community when it comes together!”
All the money raised by Tom’s efforts will be used to support staff and service users at the Trust’s services in Sunderland.
Tom would like to give an additional shout-out to Sunderland West End Ladies FC and Junior teams as well as Pennywell Comrades Social Club over 40’s for their kind generosity. Well done too to Keith Gill too for assisting greatly with the facilitation of the fundraising.
Donations to the fund are used to provide the ‘little extras’ that would not be possible with the funding we receive from central government alone, but that make a big difference to peoples’ recovery and wellbeing. In the past the fund has supported our patients with mental health problems and learning disabilities with everything from gardening tools, summer activities, and even Christmas decorations to brighten up our wards. SHINE are currently hoping to use donations to supply wards with craft materials, music equipment, games and more. For more info and to donate, visit www.cntw.nhs.uk/about/charitable-funds.
We know that times are hard for many people at the moment, so please don’t feel under any pressure to donate money. There are lots of other ways that everyone can support us, especially by staying home, supporting your family, friends and neighbours, and sharing reliable health information with them from the NHS and the UK Government.
