Why did you want to do an apprenticeship and what did you intend to get out of it?
I was offered the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship by my manager. They advised me it would put me in a great position to advance in a healthcare science career.
What career path did you take to be in a position to apply and how did you meet the entry requirements?
I have a BSc degree in another field which meant I met all the entry requirements. I had worked in audiology in a different NHS Trust, giving me previous experience with assistive technology and the benefits it can bring to patients and the public. When I applied for the apprenticeship, I had a lot of clinical background that perhaps others didn’t.
What aspects of the apprenticeship have you enjoyed most?
I have enjoyed the self-directed study the most.
How has the apprenticeship benefited you personally as well as professionally?
Thanks to this apprenticeship, I was able to apply for an advancement position in my team and was successful!
What would you say to someone considering an apprenticeship?
Do it! it can lead to job opportunities. It can improve your practice, your mindset and even your wellbeing. It not only improves your knowledge but it can also help with a sense of purpose.
