NHS employee nominated for an award for work with apprentices.

Jaclyn Gray has been shortlisted for a University of Sunderland Apprenticeship Award in the Workplace Mentor of the Year category.

The University’s annual awards recognise the efforts and contributions of apprentices and the organisations who create opportunities for them.

Jaclyn works as a community practitioner in Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW)’s Memory and Later Life Service.

The service is for anyone who has new or suspected memory problems, including those with a diagnosis of dementia, and people in later life who have anxiety, depression or psychosis.

Jaclyn has been recognised for helping apprentices to thrive and succeed in their roles.

In the award nomination, Jaclyn was described as “an exceptional mentor who consistently goes above and beyond expectations.”

She has been praised for offering invaluable advice and encouraging apprentices to build their skills and confidence.

In the nomination, an apprentice said: “Jaclyn’s mentorship has inspired me to strive to be the best nurse I can be. Her commitment to guiding and inspiring others demonstrates her genuine passion for nurturing the next generation of nurses. Her mentorship has made a significant difference to my development.”

On being a finalist, Jaclyn said: “It is an absolute privilege to be recognised by my nominating student and the University of Sunderland. I have mentored many students during my 13 years of nursing practice and I take great pride in ensuring that all my students have the best possible experience and support during their time with our service.

“I believe that it is vital as qualified staff that we provide education, care and compassion to all students so they can emulate these positive qualities when they provide mentorship in their own future careers.”

The award winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 12 February.
