The Westgate Unit located at HMP Frankland delivers assessment and treatment of up to 65 high-risk adult male offenders with complex personality disorder. The service employs specially trained clinicians and prison officers.
Its focus is to reduce the risk of serious harm presented by this group by targeting an individual’s areas of need and taking into consideration their personality and experience of trauma.
The aim is also to enhance the quality of life of service users whose complex needs often result in daily challenges. Adopting a multi-disciplinary approach, the clinical framework is informed by an integrated model, including psycho-social, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) approaches.
