NHS staff member is on the fast track to fundraising for charity.
Medical staffing manager Chloe Burdess will be taking on the Rustbox Rallies North Coast 500 to raise money for SHINE.
Part of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust’s charity, SHINE aims to improve the experience of patients receiving care in the Trust’s hospital and community services.
The charity relies on fundraisers and the generosity of donors to help provide the little extras that can make a big difference to patients.
Chloe and her husband Kriss will be driving the rally in their trusty Volvo V70. They will join around 30 other groups raising money for different charities.
Described as the ultimate banger rally, the event is a 500-mile adventure along Scotland’s north coast.
Running from 5th – 8th March, participants will begin their journey in Fort William and end in Inverness. They will pass through Loch Ness, winding through rugged landscapes and picturesque beaches.
Chloe, who has worked for CNTW for six years, said: “I’ve seen the way SHINE benefits both patients and carers. I thought this would be a nice way to give something back while also having fun.
“I’ve done some fundraising before, such as the Race for Life, but I’ve never done anything like this. I’m really excited, it’s something we’ve wanted to do for years.”
There will be different stops each day with group challenges and evening events.
Chloe and Kriss aim to raise £250 and are well on the way to reaching their target.
“We hope to raise as much money as we can,” Chloe added.
When patients come into CNTW services, they are often going through the most difficult time in their lives. SHINE aims to make this time more comfortable by providing therapeutic activities and items of comfort.
SHINE has funded hundreds of projects, supporting patients with everything from improved indoor and outdoor spaces, exercise equipment and pet therapy to yoga classes, gardening tools, festive events and much more.
