NHS chief executive takes fundraising efforts to new heights.
James Duncan, Chief Executive of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) will be jumping out of a plane at 18,000 feet, not just for the thrill, but to raise funds for the Trust’s charity.
The skydive will take place at Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria on Saturday 12 October, which is also James’s birthday.
Money raised will go to SHINE which provides the little extras that make a big difference in supporting patient care.
James will be following in the footsteps of his son Will who is a qualified high-altitude parachutist in the army and wanted his dad to experience what flying through the air is like. James’s son Eddy, who works for the Trust’s subsidiary company NTW Solutions, will also be jumping on the day.
Not for the faint-hearted, they are expected to reach speeds of 120mph!
On taking the leap, James said: “I’m feeling intrigued, excited and terrified all at the same time. I’m fundraising for SHINE because we do great work through the charity for people and I hope my profile can spread the word and encourage more fundraising.”
SHINE helps improve the experience of patients receiving care in CNTW’s hospital and community services by providing therapeutic activities and items of comfort. These can make a big difference to patients and their carers who are often going through one of the most difficult times in their lives.
The funding from SHINE does not replace the money used to fund care. Instead, it helps to provide the extras that assist with people’s care, helping them towards living happier, fuller lives. The charity has supported patients with everything from horse riding and gardening tools to bikes and Christmas decorations on wards.
October is a celebratory month for the charity as it reaches its 10th anniversary.
CNTW will be celebrating a decade of impact, highlighting the incredible things donations have funded over the past 10 years and ensuring many more years of making a difference.
Since launching in 2014, SHINE has funded hundreds of projects, including exercise equipment, pet therapy and yoga classes.
By sponsoring James’s skydive, you’ll be helping SHINE continue to make that difference.
