Intermediate Course in Systemic Practice with Families and Couples – Applications close 19 June 2026

The Northeast Family Therapy Collaborative welcome applications for the 2026-27 Working with Families and Systems: Intermediate Level Cohort starting September 2026 We invite applications for this course from individuals who have successfully completed AFSP Accredited Foundation level training. 

This Intermediate training focusses on understanding systemic theories and the development of practice skills with families, couples and individuals in health, educational and social care contexts.  It will broaden and deepen your appreciation of how beliefs, experience and context shape relationships and influence systemic practice when working with families, couples and systems.  The course aims to develop competent confident collaborative systemically informed practitioners.   

The course will consist of fifteen workshops commencing October 2026 spread across the academic year. In addition to the workshops students need to complete 60 hours systemic practice in your current role or be able to negotiate an appropriate placement.

The course has accreditation from the Association for Family and Systemic Psychotherapy, at Intermediate Level.

Assessments include a portfolio of learning, clinical presentation and two written assignments. There is an expectation that participants will supplement course attendance with relevant personal study.

Course fees are £2,600 or £3,200 inclusive of supervision. The course fees to be confirmed on application. Please Note: CNTW, TEWV and Newcastle University provide bursary course fees for internal applicants. 

The course is aimed at applicants who hold a first professional qualification or equivalent (please ask for information) and have completed AFPS Accredited Foundation level training in Systemic Practice or equivalent (APL process will be completed on application) and who can demonstrate commitment to systemic practice.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview.
