I am Dr Kaushal, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist working in North Cumbria, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

Clinically my role involves assessment and treatment planning for children adolescents referred to CAMHS for mental health issues, neurodevelopmental problems like Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Autism, Intellectual Disability (ID) and eating disorders. As a consultant I help all teams (CAMHS, Eating Disorder, ADHD, Crisis team, ID team) to discuss and plan management for the complex cases. As part of CAMHS on call duties, I deal with emergency presentations in A & E and consultation-liaison. This involve making decisions about legal safeguards for young people in crisis, supervising core trainees and crisis team staff for emergency consultations and carry out mental health act assessments if needed.

As a trainer, I am responsible for supervising medical students, psychiatry trainees, psychologists, CAMHS professionals and Non-medical Prescribers (NMP). I am involved with specific role in medical education (Med Ed) as Associate tutor, that entails taking leadership roles in Med Ed and quality improvement. I am also one of the Consultant Leads for organizing Academic program for core trainees in Cumbria.

As part of my Leadership role, I am part of pathway development for teams, take part in business meetings to shape up the service with team managers and stakeholders in CNTW NHS trust.
