Dr Michael Shaw
GMC No: 3496231
Having completed my undergraduate training and pre-registration year in Yorkshire, I moved to the Mersey Rotational Training scheme in Psychiatry in 1992. I took up a locum consultant post in New Zealand in 1997 for 18 months before returning to Merseyside to complete my senior training. I moved from Merseyside to Northumberland in 2000 to take up a traditional sector consultant psychiatrist post in Ashington. I moved to Early Intervention in Psychosis in 2005 and oversaw the development of the service and my role within it. In April 2016 I embarked on a new direction as Consultant in Gender Dysphoria motivated to a large extent by my belief in social justice and health equality. As part of my role within NRGDS I offer training in gender dysphoria to other services within and external to NTW including to primary care. I am active within the BMA, I have chaired the Trust Local Negotiating Committee for several years and I sit on the North East Regional Council of the BMA. I have previously sat as a medical member on social security appeal tribunals. For more information about me and the service I work in please go to: www.cntw.nhs.uk/NRGDS
