Medical graduation from Calcutta University, India in 1967 and completed my preregistration training in 1968. I then joined as Medical Officer, Health Department, and Government of Nepal in 1968 until 1975.

Entered Department of Psychiatry, Royal Edinburgh Hospital, Morningside in 1975 as Clinical Assistant and then SHO in Psychiatry in 1976. Registrar in Psychiatry at Bangour Village Hospital, Dechmont, Broxburn, West Lothian, Scotland in 1977 to 1978.

In 1978 I was Senior Registrar at University Department of Psychiatry, Whitington Hospital Manchester. In October 1982 Consultant Psychiatrist with Northern Regional Health Authority, Sunderland.
