I have an enduring interest in the management of people with complex affective disorders. In my clinical role, I am the Consultant Psychiatrist for the inpatient facility of the Regional Affective Disorders Service – I oversee the integration of individualised, multidisciplinary care and lead on the advanced, often novel psychopharmacological aspects of treatment.

My research focuses on lithium and I lead a team with the goal over better understanding the effects of lithium on the brain with respect to treatment response. Our program has resulted in the development of a new magnetic resonance imaging technique capable of directly charting the distribution of lithium in the brain in man.
