Dr Charlotte Deasy

I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2006 and moved to Oxford in 2008 for combined clinical and academic post-graduate training in psychiatry. I was appointed Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry at CNTW in 2016.  I was attracted to work in Newcastle by its reputation for clinical services for older people, track record in dementia research, and the opportunity to live near a cultural centre and some very beautiful countryside.

Current roles

I am the Lead Consultant for Newcastle Memory Assessment and Management Service. We are a busy, multi-disciplinary team committed to providing a high-quality service for patients and their families. Education and teaching opportunities are embedded in our clinical work and we offer post-graduate training for specialist trainees pursuing careers in old age psychiatry. I am accredited as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Post-Graduate trainer for Senior Registrars. I am always keen to encourage students and junior doctors interested in pursuing careers in old age psychiatry, particularly in the North-East.

I have an interest in improving the systems that support patient care and clinical safety. Clinical leadership is a core part of my work and I have a strategic role as Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer, and operational management role as Assistant Medical Director (Central CBU).

I am an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University and actively support the CNTW strategy to increase patient access to research. I have roles in commercial and non-commercial clinical trials in Dementia.

Nationally I am an elected member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Old Age Faculty, and have worked with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), National Confidential Enquiry on Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) and NICE.
