Who are we?
The Northumberland Emotional Wellbeing Support Team (NEWST) is a team of mental health professionals.
We work for Cumbria, Northumbria, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust. We also work with Northumberland Children’s Social Care. We help plan and deliver trauma-informed care.
Who do we help?
- We help services understand a young person’s emotional and mental health needs.
- We support joined-up care for young people and their families.
- We help build stable and caring support systems.
- We aim to grow confidence and strength around the young person.
- We help young people with complex needs to thrive.
- We aim to reduce the need for mental health services.
Who works for us?
Our team includes:
- Nurses
- Therapists
- Social workers
- Managers
We have strong experience in children’s mental health and care services.
How can we help?
NEWST supports Northumberland County Council social workers. They can request a clinic meeting. This offers advice, support, and a safe space to reflect.
We provide:
- Clinic meetings
- “Understanding their story” sessions
- Staff training
- Direct work with young people and carers
- Support for social workers
- Group work
- Reflective sessions
How can I get referred?
You need a social worker in Northumberland Children’s Services to refer you.
After a referral, we arrange a clinic meeting with a clinician. We decide if more support is helpful.
The team meets weekly to plan next steps. We agree the best pathway and assign a clinician.
We do not have a waiting list.
