The North Community Treatment Team, based at Monkwearmouth Hospital in Sunderland, provides assessment and treatment for people who are experiencing difficulty with their mental health.
The aim of the Community Treatment Team is to provide specialised evidence based skilled interventions to people with moderate to critical mental health needs that maximise their potential for recovery. The team works with people who have severe and enduring mental illness that often results in complex health and social care needs.
The team is made up of a number of health care professionals including:
• Consultant Psychiatrists
• Psychologists/Psychological Therapists
• Registered Mental Health Nurses (Community Psychiatric Nurse)
• Occupational Therapists
• Clinical Support Assistants
• Peer Support Workers
• Junior Doctors
• Pharmacists

The team provides a service to adults aged 18 years and over.
How can I get referred?
Referrals to the team are made to Single Point of Access, based at Hopewood Park, Sunderland by phone, letter or email. Anyone can make a referral but we will seek service users consent to proceed with this. Referrals are processed by administration staff for triage by Senior RNMH. Any complex referrals can be discussed in their daily multi disciplinary team (MDT) meeting. Referring information along with any other information available through RiO is discussed at triage and a decision is made regarding Community Treatment Team intervention. You will be offered either MDT assessment or signposted to the most appropriate service.
