The Children’s Speech and Language Therapy team within Community Team Learning Disabilities (CTLD) is based at Benton House in Newcastle. The team work with children and young people aged 3 to 19 with a diagnosed learning disability who attend Hadrian, Thomas Bewick and Sir Charles Parsons schools in Newcastle.
The team provide specialist assessment, intervention and management of communication needs and eating and drinking difficulties. The team work in partnership with children and young people, their parents/carers, school staff and others involved in their care (including but not limited to Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Social care, Community nursing and Respite care).
How to make a referral?
The team accept referrals from anyone involved with a child or young person, including parents and carers, when there is an identified need for Specialist Speech and Language support. For more information, see our referrer leaflet.
