Dr James Stoddart

I am the Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Dr. James William Anderson Stoddart.

I have been medically qualified since 1998, after graduating from the University of Oxford. I have worked as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist since 2007. I currently work as the Consultant on the acute medium secure admission ward of Newcastle upon Tyne’s Bamburgh Clinic. This is for male patients with primary diagnoses of mental illness. I have also worked as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist in a medium secure personality disorder ward, and a medium secure rehabilitation mental illness ward. I have been the visiting psychiatrist to a number of prisons in the North East of England, including HMP Durham and currently HMP Northumberland. My dissertation for my Masters in Mental Health Law at Northumbria University was a comparative study of diminished responsibility between Scots and English law. I have presented lectures and workshops on diminished responsibility at regional, national, and international conferences.
