We’d like to welcome the mental health and learning disability staff in North Cumbria who will be joining us from October 2019 when services in North Cumbria transfer to this Trust.

Ahead of the transfer our Chair and Executive Team have recorded some short video messages below to welcome new staff joining our Trust.

Ken Jarrold

Ken Jarrold is Chair of our Council of Governors and Board of Directors. Ken has nearly 50 years of experience in the NHS including 20 years as a Chief Executive, 3 years at national level as Director of Human Resources and Deputy to the Chief Executive of the NHS in England, and 14 years as a consultant working with the NHS and as a Chair and Non Executive Director in the NHS and the public sector. He is also one of the two Patrons of the NHS Retirement Fellowship.

Ken enjoys his work with the NHS, supporting his family, and reading and writing. His first book “Other People’s Shoes: 40 questions for leaders and managers” was published last year and he is now working on his next book “Winning and Using Power” which is a comparison of Labour Prime Ministers Clement Attlee and Tony Blair. Ken came out 12 years ago at the age of 59.

John Lawlor

John Lawlor joined NTW as our Chief Executive in 2014. John was brought up in West Yorkshire and he worked as a school maths teacher and a civil servant before moving into healthcare. His subsequent decades of experience in the NHS have included roles as the Chief Executive of Leeds Primary Care Trust (PCT), Airedale, Bradford and Leeds PCT and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. In 2019 John was ranked in the top five NHS Chief Executives in the country by the Health Service Journal.

James Duncan

James Duncan is our Finance Director and Deputy Chief Executive. A member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, he has extensive financial experience in the NHS including managing mergers, the application process to become a Foundation Trust, PFI and significant capital investment. James is happily married with three teenage boys (and a dog) and in his spare time enjoys walking (especially out in the wild), reading, music, cooking and generally keeping fit.

Lisa Quinn

Lisa Quinn has been an Executive Director at NTW since 2009, and is currently our Executive Director of Commissioning and Quality Assurance. A Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Lisa has over 30 years of NHS experience including significant expertise in quality assurance, governance and financial management. She is our Trust’s Executive Lead for CQC, Data and Cyber Security and is also an Executive Reviewer for the Care Quality Commission.

Rajesh Nadkarni

Rajesh is our Executive Medical Director. His qualifications include FRCPsych, MMedSc in Psychiatry (University of Leeds), Doctorate of Medicine (MD) and Diplomate of the National Board in Psychiatry from India and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). With over 19 years’ experience as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Rajesh’s extensive medical expertise includes regionally and nationally significant work in medical education, forensic psychiatry and offender management.

Gary O’Hare

When he was growing up Gary had ambitions to be a professional footballer. While working as a bricklayer he heard there was a job going at a local hospital which turned out to be the start of his 36 year NHS career. His many roles have included a nursing assistant, registered mental health nurse and ward manager, and for the past 14 years he has been our Executive Director of Nursing and Chief Operating Officer, successfully leading us through the Foundation Trust process and two complex mergers. He was also at the helm when our comprehensive CQC inspection achieved an Outstanding rating and regularly influences healthcare decisions at a national level.

Lynne Shaw

Lynne Shaw is our Acting Executive Director of Workforce and Organisational Development and has over 30 years’ experience in the field of human resources, including nearly 20 years in the NHS. A Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Lynne has extensive experience of change management, transformational leadership and workforce development. She is also a Governor of a local college.

Useful Information about NTW

Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust was formed in 1 April 2006 through the merger of three different NHS trusts: Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland Mental Health NHS Trust; South of Tyne and Wearside Mental Health NHS Trust; and Northgate and Prudhoe NHS Trust.  On 1 December 2009 the Trust gained Foundation Trust status.

The Trust works from more than 60 sites across Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland. We also run a number of regional and national specialist services. Along with partners, we deliver support to people in their own homes, and from community and hospital-based premises.

We have more than 6,000 people working for us and a budget of over £300million.

The services we provide are divided into three sections, which are organised geographically into “locality care groups”. These are known as North, Central, and South.

Our vision and values

Our vision and values are at the heart of all we do.

Our vision was developed in 2017 and is underpinned by a set of core values that we refreshed during 2013. We did this in consultation with service users, carers, staff, governors and other partners.

Our CQC rating

In August 2016 the Trust was rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission and in July 2018 the Trust received its second outstanding rating.
